Canada has introduced new pilot programs<\/a> designed to support home care workers by offering them permanent residency upon arrival. These pilots aim to streamline the immigration process for those providing essential care to vulnerable individuals such as children, seniors, and people with disabilities. The programs are part of Canada\u2019s ongoing efforts to address labour shortages in caregiving sectors and to ensure that those who work in these roles can establish a secure future in the country. These new pilots are set to open by the beginning of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Updates for Caregivers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1. The current situation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Currently, foreign caregivers are able to obtain a work permit under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), work permit applications for caregivers applying through the TFWP get faster processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. New pilots<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The pilots will allow for newly arrived home care workers to also obtain part time or temporary positions at organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. More direct pathway to permanent residency<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Eligible caregivers can apply for permanent residency immediately upon arrival, bypassing the need to apply for temporary work permits first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
